STEEL

I use a variety of steels throughout my work but my go-to is stainless steel because of its low maintenance. However, every knife I make is custom so if high carbon steel is your thing, just let me know.

Workability is vital for the creation of a sharp and lasting blade. Modern steels include common elements like manganese, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, boron, titanium, vanadium, tungsten, cobalt, and niobium.

Some factory makers have started to etch the formula into their blade with "X50CrMoV15" signifying that each is made with 0.5% carbon, 15% chromium and unspecified but smaller amounts of molybdenum and vanadium.

I use a mix of steels and formulas and I am always happy to discuss options with anyone ordering a custom knife.

Heat is magic. It changes the structure and properties of steel. I take this process very seriously because, quite frankly, if not done correctly there is no point in making a blade at all.
